Fair and Accurate Credit Transaction Act of 2003 was passed by Congress in December as an ammendment to the Fair Credit Reporting Act. The revisions included provisions to reduce identity theft, including regulating how organizations handling credit information secure data and alerts for consumers to place on credit histories if identity theft is suspected.
FTC Disposal Rule
Effective June 2005, the rule specifically outlines proper information disposal under FACTA, including the requirement of destorying documents and using due diligence in selecting a document destruction vendor.
